UPDATE: Man suffers serious injuries from Centennial Bridge accident

UPDATE: According to a release from the Davenport Police Department, at approximately 4:49 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, Davenport Police and Fire, Rock Island Police and Fire, and Rock Island Arsenal Ambulance responded to the Centennial Bridge for a personal injury crash.

UPDATE: According to a release from the Davenport Police Department, at approximately 4:49 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, Davenport Police and Fire, Rock Island Police and Fire, and Rock Island Arsenal Ambulance responded to the Centennial Bridge for a personal injury crash.

The release says that a vehicle had become disabled due to mechanical issues while traveling Illinois-bound on the Centennial Bridge. The driver was attempting to perform maintenance in front of his vehicle when it was struck from behind by a second vehicle.

The driver of the disabled vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The Centennial Bridge was closed for approximately an hour and has since reopened. This incident remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

EARLIER: An accident on the Centennial Bridge has closed traffic in both directions.

Police have closed traffic between Davenport and Rock Island since about 5:00 p.m.
Davenport Police tell Our Quad Cities News there was an accident but won’t elaborate beyond that. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes.
